Cooking Channel Features The Bistro on Southern and Hungry

We are thrilled to announce the official air date of Cooking Channel’s Southern and Hungry featuring Smoky Mountain cuisine, including creations from Dancing Bear Lodge & Appalachian Bistro. Season 2, episode 3 continues Damaris Philips’ and Rutledge Wood’s tour of great cuisine in and around Knoxville, Tennessee.

The episode is set to premiere Monday, August 20, 2018, at 9 pm Eastern (8 Central). It features three top Knoxville, TN restaurants, including our very own Dancing Bear Appalachian Bistro, located just a short drive from the city in picturesque Townsend, TN.

“(Knoxville is) a city that insists on using only the freshest regional ingredients for its spectacular Southern cuisine,” the episode guide states, describing “a drive into the mountains of rustic Appalachia for some homemade ham-jam biscuits, spicy pickles and delectable pork belly with a tea-poached egg on top.”

Dancing Bear Appalachian Bistro’s award-winning Executive Chef Shelley Cooper offers a unique version of highbrow Appalachian fare inspired by her life travels and passion for Southern foods. Chef Cooper has also been featured in publications such as Bon Appetit, Food Arts, Food and Wine, Good Housekeeping, The Local Palate, and author Ronni Lundy’s Victuals – An Appalachian Journey, with Recipes, to name a few. Last fall, Chef Cooper and the restaurant were featured on an episode of Travel Channel’s Food Paradise titled “Hotel Hot Spots.”

The upcoming Southern and Hungry episode will also feature stops at Knoxville’s “meat ‘n three” Lunch House for the meatloaf, and Tootsie Truck, “for a locally sourced duck breast salad and a finger-licking trout po’ boy.” Southern and Hungry takes viewers on a road trip through the South as Southern food expert Damaris Phillips and NASCAR personality Rutledge Wood discover memorable dishes served from real, down-home restaurants that remind them of the ones they grew up eating in, and that always feel like home. Previous episodes have taken them to exceptional restaurants in Memphis, TN, Asheville, NC, Savannah, GA, Charlotte, NC, Oxford, MS, Monk’s Corner, SC, Chattanooga, TN, Louisville, KY, and more.
