Spring is quickly approaching, and that means it’s time to plan a Spring Break getaway! Whether you’re planning an adventure with the family, a group of friends, or an intimate getaway for two, there is no lack of exciting outdoor spring activities in and around the Great Smoky Mountains! Dancing Bear Lodge is your Smoky Mountain basecamp, which means you will have access to our property’s trails that stretch for 2 miles, perfect for a quiet stroll, a picnic, or a hike.
When you venture out to explore the surrounding area, make sure to schedule time to soak up the most iconic part of spring in the Smokies: Breathtaking Spring Wildflowers.
Fun fact: The Great Smoky Mountains National Park has more flowering plants than any other national park, with over 1,500 different types to view when you explore. These gorgeous blooms are the most impressive from mid-March through June, and can be seen while hiking through many of the park’s trails.
Here are a few of the park’s main hikes to explore, for optimal wildflower viewing:
- Schoolhouse Gap Trail
- Little River Trail
- Cove Hardwood Nature Trail
- Porters Creek Trail
- Appalachian Trail (between Newfound Gap and Road Prong Trail)
You can even take part in the Wildflower Pilgrimage, an annual event featuring a professionally guided tour. More than 700 tours have taken place in the past 68 years, and the program includes viewing of wildflowers, medicinal plants, fungi, animals, and much, much more! Learn more about specific pilgrimage dates and pricing by visiting their website.
After an adventure-filled day exploring the great outdoors and viewing the beautiful blooms of the Smokies, treat yourself to dinner at Dancing Bear Appalachian Bistro, then relax next to the Bistro’s fire pit and roast some well-deserved s’mores! Make your reservations online and enjoy!
