Dancing Bear Appalachian Bistro Secures Back-to-Back Victory as 2026 Cityview Top Chef Grand Champion!

For the second year in a row, Executive Chef Jeff Carter of Dancing Bear Appalachian Bistro has been crowned the Grand Champion in the Cityview Top Chefs competition.

Building on last year’s historic “Grand Slam,” Chef Jeff returned to the kitchen this spring with a bold “Exploration of Italian Appalachia”—a menu that proved once again why the Peaceful Side of the Smokies is a premier culinary destination. From a smoked rainbow trout and crawfish Appalachian Cioppino to the innovative Five Expressions of Duck, the team delivered a performance that captivated judges and guests alike.
A special highlight of the evening included Pastry Chef Tirra Cowan’s stunning Buttermilk & Cornbread Tiramisu with elderberry and limoncello crème, which secured 2nd place in the dessert category and helped propel the Bistro to the overall top spot.

This year’s competition was incredibly tight, with some of Knoxville’s finest talent at the table. But Jeff Carter’s ability to weave tradition with sophisticated technique remains unmatched. To win Grand Champion once is an honor; to do it two years in a row is a testament to true culinary excellence.” — Nathan Sparks, owner and publisher of Cityview Magazine
